David Rowlands - Senior Researcher

"We use a system of metrics developed from years of experience in professional benchmarking."

"It seems that the several strands of measures we employed down the years form essential components in the gigantic jigsaw that nowadays is combined in just two words NET ZERO."

"We use our metrics to measure the key outputs required by the Three Principles of the Circular Economy."  We can all be part of this process even if we make small steps.

We understand it is better to achieve small steps rather be expected to leap into the role of becoming net zero.  Perhaps a first step would be to find out what NET ZERO means, read on.....

Promoting an understanding how we can all help to reduce emissions

Every day national names such as Ordnance Survey conduct scientific analysis of land, across the built environment, helping to identify soil quality as part of a quest to understand the big picture - of what is happening over the British Isles.

A major national organisation respected the world over, Ordnance Survey are experts at Net Zero. They deliver major outputs at all levels from big business, to government departments and especially to people at home, people who buy their maps, their OS Apps and their Pathfinder Guides.

They are joined by many of our major charities, the Royal Horticultural Society, The National Trust for Scotland, English Heritage, the Soil Association all focused on achieving Net Zero.

Together these organisations, which we are proud to promote, care for land, buildings, castles, ancient monuments, parks, gardens, national parks, forestry, farming, organic certification and so much more.

We ask you to visit their pages on our website, see for yourself how these organisations are leading from the very grassroots of the British Isles. And grassroots means healthy soil, so healthy in fact that the Soil Association will certify crops that are grown in the best conditions.

Click the logos at the very bottom of this page to visit each organisation, they are experts in their field and provide invaluable, hands on knowledge you can use today.

But they are not alone in steering change, in combining expertise to reduce carbon emissions.

A global leader in environmental standards the  British Standards Institute**  is encouraging small firms to progress towards a sustainable future with BSI training and qualifications.

SME's can gain competitive advantage by reducing costs whilst becoming a more attractive business partner. BSI like all our national partners can help companies and that includes micro businesses to become both plastic-free and toxic free.

As of early 2026, there are over 2,700 certified B Corporations in the UK, making it the largest and fastest-growing B Corp community in the world.

These businesses span 120 industries, employ over 200,000 people, and represent roughly a quarter of the global B Corp community.

UK B Corp certification is acknowledged as a demanding process, nevertheless  aspirational companies are  flocking to its door.

They say:  'Our most challenging global problems cannot be solved by governments and non-profits alone. By harnessing the power of their business, B Corps commit to positively impact all stakeholders – workers, communities, customers, and our planet.'

Naturally Sustainable work with B Corp companies, businesses at the forefront in organic supplements, beauty preparations, in food production, recycling and reuse, and in the circular economy.

They are all SME's businesses whose founders have built and steered their companies in the challenging world of this 21st century.

In Reports for 2025 households accounted for the largest share of GHG Emissions

The most recent UK Environmental Accounts for 2025 report that households continue to account for the largest share of greenhouse gas emissions in comparison with energy, manufacturing and transport.

UK greenhouse gas emissions on a residence basis decreased by 4.3% below 2022 levels to 479 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent. The lowest since 1990 and 43% below 1990 levels. Even so consumer expenditure remains the single largest contributor to this measure of UK emissions in 2023, accounting for 25.4% of total emissions, followed by the energy industry with 15.5%.

Our partners, national names, together with specialist businesses, are committed to reducing carbon, each with its own social development goals, and all of us actively contributing to reductions in Greenhouse Gas Emissions by 2030 and beyond to 2050.
