Climate Action Opinion from the World Economic Forum on the EU Commission's Omnibus Package asks "How many businesses with less than 1000 employees will applaud the apparent delays."
But the inverse may well be true. The Opinion concludes, "Customers, suppliers and investors will not wait for regulations to dictate their actions and are most likely to further proceed with their sustainability endeavors.
Whereas the legally mandated role of sustainability professionals is diminishing, market dynamics are expected to further drive sustainability efforts across the entire value chain."
Naturally Sustainable explore some of these market dynamics that will drive sustainability across entire value chains. Learn more from some of the UK's global leaders, organisations including Ordnance Survey and BSI.

The UK government sees a clear and appropriate role for the responsible use of high-integrity carbon and nature credits by companies or other organisations that wish to do so as part of science aligned climate and nature strategies.
In early 2025, we will issue a public consultation to seek views on the steps the government could take to raise the integrity and use of VCNMs (Voluntary Carbon and Nature Markets) together with the proposed implementation of the Principles for carbon and nature market integrity.

Whilst many organisations continue to purchase carbon credits to offset their carbon outputs, Carbon Market Watch discusses the flawed renewable energy projects in the voluntary carbon market.
The public consultation proposed by the UK government highlights the burgeoning need to raise the integrity and use of VCNMs.

Donna Lyndsay, Strategic Market Lead for Sustainability at OS says
"In 2025, we’re likely to see a growing focus in how location intelligence supports global resilience in the face of climate and biodiversity challenges."
Donna Lyndsey continues
"As the world seeks to build a resilient infrastructure, location-based insights will be central to guiding effective decision-making, especially in sectors at risk from climate change, such as agriculture and food production.
But to do this, there needs to be collaborative leadership from businesses and government, and cross-collaboration with SMEs, policymakers and industry partners, for example with global supply chains, to improve data coverage and consistency."
Here is a completely new and stimulating opportunity fronted by BSI
They say "We are working across all devolved governments, facilitating a market-led process to develop a suite of interconnected standards for nature markets."
Sustainable sourcing, products and packaging
Leaders in consumer goods do not compromise they focus on best practice,
more and more businesses reduce, reuse, recycle, repair.
Innovative packaging
Best practice packaging provides solutions within the container itself. Sachets and tubes are now made from a by-product of sugar cane, cartons from compostable grass paper. Both legislation and regulations are driving innovation and not just in large organizations, our B Corp partners demonstrate real skill, tenacity and agility.
Reusable Packaging
Among our suppliers are companies that provide post-free return of their re-useable screwtop sachets. A beauty products supplier rewards retailers that encourage customers to return their empty containers to be sanitized and refilled. Many of our suppliers have been able to remove or replace plastic from their packaging.
Recyclable Products
The ubiquitous corrugated case has remarkable insulation properties. One of our partners delivering fresh food to your door has taken advantage by retaining chilled air between layers of corrugated. Success came after a lot of development. Corrugated cases are the easiest products to recycle, the material can be used up to five times.

Farmers: Sustainability Leaders in our Communities
Increasing the supply of organic certified tree and hedging plants
One major step forward in the last few years has been the adoption by farmers of agroecology where farms integrate woodland into arable crop areas. The Soil Association is conducting an Agroforestry in Action Project where agroforestry combines trees with crops or livestock. Learn more here.
In a second project on the same theme the Soil Association say: "To put the UK on the path to Net Zero by 2050, the Climate Change Committee recommends that the UK needs to plant around 30,000 hectares (90 to 120 million trees) of broad leaf and conifer woodland each year. The Soil Association’s own vision for agroecology and regenerative forestry is for the area of farm woodland to double by 2050 and for 50% of all farms to incorporate some form of agroforestry system". Learn more here.
If you are keen to protect our planet, by joining the Soil Association you will be making a real contribution.
Both projects are an indication of just how busy, how involved the Soil Association are in their work with farmers and the farming community. And it has to be so if the UK is to maintain its place as one of the leaders in methods that preserve land, soil and reduce the amount of chemical fertilizers.
The projects key easily into the Circular Economy. In the model below, developed by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, we can see how farming and collection fits into the Renewables Flow. If farmers were to use agrochemicals their input would not fit the circular economy model, in fact we can see how agrochemicals have no place on the circular economy. Note how the diagram includes renewable energy - which if it is derived from fossil fuels equally has no place in the circular economy.
